Just wanted to share...

Hey everyone! I just wanted to share my cousin Stephanie's website with you! She is a student at Vanderbilt and since living in TN, she has really jump started what I hope is a long singing career! Her family grew up right in the Holy Redeemer neighborhood (some going to Holy Redeemer)! Now they live in the Potomac area. She came from a musical family (sang at my wedding) and is wonderful! Please check out her website below and share it with anyone that might be interested!! Thank you for spreading the word!

You can buy her songs/album on itunes!! :)

Here's what you missed...

I hope you all can take a moment to look at your schedule and figure out a time that you can come be a FABULOUS friend in 1A! The kids absolutely love this time of the week and get so excited to find out who our mystery person is! (FYI, try to keep it a secret from your child so he/she is surprised too!) Remember, if Thursday/2:00-2:45 or both do not work for you then we can figure out another day/time!

Friday, we had our first class birthday! Happy Birthday Michael K! 1A thanks Michael for bringing in a special birthday treat to share. Please feel free to drop off birthday treats at arrival and we will have it at some point during our day. If your child's birthday falls on a weekend or holiday break, you can do it before/after their actual day! We will celebrate all summer birthdays in May/June!
(I won't forget you, promise! I'm a summer birthday too!)

We are taking a brief break from our short vowels to work on beginning and ending blends! Be sure to review these with your child. It will be very helpful in both his/her reading and writing (spelling)!

Thank you for donating empty gatorade/water bottles! I have all that I need for now. If I need more, I will definitely ask! :) I used your donations to make discovery bottles for the kids. I saw this idea on http://www.pinterest.com/ I thought it would be a perfect addition for our centers. Ask your child what he/she had to "discover"!

Finally, to help the kids recognize questions/exclamation sentences, we made these reminder diagrams. We worked on the question words today. We will work on the exclamation one tomorrow. This one will be especially helpful when writing sentences at home for spelling or other practice. Keep it handy so that they kids know what to start a "question" off with!

Have a great day! Please be sure to e-mail me when you want to do fabulous friend. If you have any pictures from homecoming, please send those to me as well.

THANKS!

BOO!

Wow! What a fun day! The kids always make the best of rainy days!
Today we had another fabulous friend. (Feel free to sign up for open dates or select another date!!) The kids "kept on going" with Mrs. K as they played GHOST bingo! The excitement was building as they got closer and closer to getting their bingo. Prizes and fun were had by all! Thank you Mrs. K for bringing a special prize for Mrs. G & myself...yummy!!!
Take a look at some of our excitement below! :)

The kids enjoyed their orange "sails" from their Columbus snack.

REMINDERS! :)

Please bring in APPLES for S.O.M.E tomorrow! :)

Scholastic Orders are coming home today! :) Please return order form or place your order online by Friday! :) There are lots of great selections for the Fall/holidays!

Our Father

Just a reminder...please practice the Our Father with your child at home. He/She will be asked to say this prayer at the beginning of November. As part of our standards, the children need to know specific prayers. This is a biggie! :) Thank you for practicing with your child & for bringing them to weekly Mass. It is so important towards his/her faith formation!

THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone that donated some of the needed supplies to 1A! :) The only thing I am still looking for is (cleaned out) gatorade/water bottles. If you do not have those but have clear containers with lids (taller rather than wider), that can work too! THANKS AGAIN! :)

On Halloween Night...

Happy Tuesday! I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend. Be sure to check our weekly letter for homework, skills and notes! One quick note that isn't on the weekly letter --> TAG DAY FRIDAY! Students are permitted to wear a flag football or sport jersey in honor of HOMECOMING! Also, please remember that our Science test is Thursday! Study, study, study!! :)

Today the children worked on their descriptive writing, using the picture below:

Ask your child how he/she described Russell! I can't wait to read their work!!! Also, be on the lookout for a fun video that I will post of my dog(s)!

This afternoon, we are going to use what we know about descriptive writing to create a story titled "On Halloween Night!" The kids seem pretty excited and I am sure they will be great! Look for the stories to be up in the hall later in the week.

Have a great day!

1A gets me SO excited!

Yesterday, I noticed that the kids were using their composition notebooks and just wanted to write. Today, I realized the kids were taking books off the shelves and copying the words because they wanted to "write stories!" Instead of talking and playing they just want to write. I had a huge grin on my face and wanted you to take a peek at just a few of the students who chose this activity!

This afternoon, the kids learned the DOUBLES RAP in math!
Read and listen below!!

Have a great Wednesday! :)

Check out the next STARS in 1A!!

Do we have the next Justin Beiber??

Is your child the next member of the Black Eyed Peas??

EVERYONE had an AWESOME day! :)

1A update...date...date

Good morning! Sorry for the delay in my newest post but there were a few computer glitches/power problems that had to be worked out! Last week, the school did awesome raising money for children's cancer! There are pictures of all the children below PJAMMIN for Cancer!! Great Job 1A! I love to see full participation on the tag/theme days! (Those are my favorite days!!) At the end of the day, we had a short dance party and each child had to dance up to get his/her folder. Some kids were timid and some were WOO ENERGETIC but all hips were moving! They were SO CUTE!

Yesterday, I did a little begging for 1A to be apart of the morning band assembly. The students were able to listen to the Marine Band Brass Quintet play and talk about their fun job! We learned that this group plays for many special events and their sole purpose is to provide music/entertainment for the President.
